Update: Preview Open’er Festival 2016, GDYNIA, POLAND

We released this preview in early January and since then the incredible organisers of Open’er have dropped artist after artist, to nearly complete their 2016 lineup.

In addition to the already featured preview below,  the following immense acts will be playing to the beautiful Polish crowd.

Wednesday 29th June:

Mac DeMarco, Tame Impala, The Last Shadow Puppets.

To say we’re excited about the first day is a gross understatement. All the artists announced on the opening day’s bill, are at the peak of their game, releasing some of the best music across various genres. To see once again some Southern Hemisphere love at this festival by naming Tame Impala for a second stint, it brings sheer delight to our faces and also a second opportunity to see them play their insatiable new record. The Last Shadow Puppets have always been a favourite of ours and we never get bored of Alex Turners prowess especially when he’s on the Mainstage of Gydnia.

Thursday 30th June:

Caribou, M83.

Two bands here who are honestly made up of electronic maestros. Witnessing both of them live across various stages around the world, we don’t need to sing them any praises as their music does it itself many thousand times over. Welcome to Poland!

Friday 1st July:

Kurt Vile & The Violators, LCD Soundsytem, Vince Staples.

Well what do we need to say here that hasn’t already been said across every blog in the world. We haven’t got much really, as we’re so stoked they will play in Poland. It is a comeback sure; but why wouldn’t LCD Soundsystem want to continue giving the world their tunes to people who love them so much. James Murphy and co…. welcome to the Main Stage.

Saturday 2nd July:

At The Drive-In, Bastille, Grimes, Kygo and The 1975.

Why not add another reunion to the mix of artists at Open’er this year. At The Drive-In playing the Tent Stage will be packed to the seams, as they’re not only showcasing new music, but also belting out tunes that will be older than most of the punters watching them. Not to be missed.

Continued from January 2016.

When you are considering a festival to attend in 2016, don’t even consider any other option if this one is thrown onto the list of potentials. We guarantee that if you tick the box of Open’er Festival in the glorious Poland, it will not only fulfil your needs and wants of a music festival, but will be supersede any pre-existing benchmark you ever had. For us, it is something that we hold very closely, as each year we have attended this show piece, we walk away thinking it can’t get any better. It is hands down the best European Festival, for anyone that wants an authentic Festival experience.

It’s all about the focal point…. the music. A good dose of what to expect has already filtered through the the music world, with as is customary an orgasmic lineup to play in 2016.

The opening day Wednesday 29th of June 2016, explodes onto the airfields of Gdynia with an old heavy weight and a new heavy weight. PJ Harvey will lift the tent off Tent Stage, with 25 years of credentials behind her to unleash. There is no need to delve into the details as we’ll be here all year, but do yourself a favour and swing by the Tent stage and let her take control of your body. Florence and the Machine are set to close the opening days proceedings, and we couldn’t pick a better time for them to do so. We were lucky enough to see Florence and co play to a sold our Berlin crowd at the end of 2015, and we can only say we cannot wait to see what they have in store for a festival show. Their latest record, is nothing short of pure class.

We’re not sure where to start on the acts that have been announced for Thursday 30th June. Is it too early to predict a highlight already? When you announce Beirut, Foals, Red Hot Chili Peppers on one day, brains explode, and the music world goes into chaos. Beirut playing Open’er Festival has been a long time coming with the organisers throwing bait out to the band to play in 2008, but unfortunately they had to cancel. So, 2016 is a huge moment for everyone in Poland as we not only get to witness the bands latest record No No No from September last year, but also their debut festival show. Foals 2014 is etched heavily into our brains as one of our Open’er Festival highlights. The Mainstage was erupted two years ago, with Yiannis and co, giving the sun drenched crowd hit after hit. 2016 sees them return with a new record What Went Down in stow and another year of experience. Not to be missed. Now, we’re not too sure where to start here. Red Hot Chili Peppers definitely define an era of incredible rock and roll music and will also go down as one of the most important bands of the 21st Century. The accolades are huge, the songs are even larger, and the Polish crowd welcomes them with open arms for the first time in 2016. Hints of a new record have been dropped by legendary leadman Anthony Kiedis, but push this speculation aside, 2016, Open’er Mainstage is all we’re worried about.

Friday 1st July, showcases two hugely popular acts, being Sigur Rós and Wiz Khalifa. Somewhat opposite ends of the music spectrum, but meeting in the middle on a immense talent level. One of the hottest rap artists in recent times, Wiz Khalifa have dominated charts throughout 2015, and his big hit ‘See You Again’ nearly amassing a half a billion plays on Spotify. Bringing to Open’er his 2015 record Taylor Gang, the Polish crowd are accustomed to supreme rap talents over the years and we cannot wait to catch him live in action on the Mainstage. Sigur Rós being announced on the Open’er Festival lineup sends shivers down our spines, as we envisage something exceptional in a festival setting. If you haven’t grabbed a snippet of their heaven like tracks, give yourself a late Christmas present and buy one of their records. 2016 in Gdynia, hearts will melt, people will fall in love and Icelands favourite kids will as always bring happiness in the turmoil laden world.

Saturday 2nd July sees Scottish and Invasionmag favourites CHVRCHES don the Tent Stage. We have seen the growth of this band from their infancy and are already looking forward to their Open’er Festival performance. Winning hearts all over the world and delivering some of the best new tunes year on year, 2016 will see them release a new record and win even more hearts over!

We are already waiting with baited breath for the next announcement, but until then, grab your tickets and get set for another incredible year at Europe’s Premier Open’er Festival.
